Amarillo, TX - Adoptions at Catholic Family Services in Amarillo will no longer be available and overseas adopting may be to blame.

Twelve years ago Nick and Becky Gerlich wanted to start a family. Dr.Gerlich said, "We felt the need to reach out to them and try to offer them the luxuries of a home life."They made the decision to adopt internationally. They watched a documentary on Chinese orphans and they say they're hearts melted.

The Gerlichs chose adopting from China not because of money or less hassle but so they don't have to worry about anything in the long run. They said one of the primary benefits of international adoption is that you probably don't have to worry about parents showing up on your door step and wanting their child back is nearly impossible.

It's situations like this that may have had the Catholic Family Services ending their adoptions all together and the executive director Bernard Johnson says its becoming one popular trend. Bernard says although they are no longer providing this service there are still 8 other adoption agencies in our area that people can still go to. Johnson added parents who are wanting to adopt children can still go to them however they will refer them to another adoptive agency in Dallas.
