Fighting Child Abuse

AMARILLO, TEXAS - The bridge is a program that takes testimony from children who have been abused or have seen abuse happen. Although they're based in Amarillo, they serve 26 counties of the Texas Panhandle.

Before today that meant abused children underwent more trauma because they often had to leave the comfort of their own communities and drive to be interviewed in Amarillo. Often times they were transported on tax payer dollars by state employees.

To help out, the center has established terminate interview rooms in Hereford and Pampa, and the interviewers have new technology they can take anywhere. They have also realigned staffing to make two interviewers full time for rural counties.

Those staffers are also spending a big chunk of time bringing new education and prevention programs to outer areas - with the dream of one day making the increase services something that isn't needed anywhere.
