Deaf Smith Co. jail escapee caught in San Angelo

HEREFORD, Texas (AP) - An inmate who spent nearly four months on the run after escaping from the Deaf Smith County Jail has been caught in San Angelo.

Felix Gonzalez was a trusty when he fled on Jan. 28 while taking some garbage out during a snowstorm.

Sheriff's department dispatcher Linda Adams told The Associated Press that deputies on Wednesday were in the process of returning the inmate to the jail in Hereford.

Gonzalez was captured Saturday.

The 38-year-old inmate is facing charges including probation violation for driving while intoxicated, which was his original reason for being in custody, plus escape and failure to identify himself to an officer. Gonzalez allegedly gave a fake name when caught in San Angelo, about 285 miles southeast of Hereford.
