Victims Speak Out

AMARILLO - It's called one of the "least talked about" crimes - but it's also one of the fastest growing in the Panhandle.

Last year there were over four hundred fifty sexual assault exams in Amarillo -- but experts estimate there were actually thousands of victims in our area.

Studies show only about one in ten people impacted by the crime will come forward.

To try and get more victims to speak out, family support services hosted an open mic night Wednesday at the 806 Coffee House. Former victims took the mic to let others know there is no reason to be ashamed.

If you've been a victim, Family Support Services encourages you to call their 24-hour hotline for help. That number is 374-LIFE.
