Canyon, TX - Monday's stabbing of a Canyon 8th grader has one local psychiatrist questioning what the school crime really entailed.

When NewsChannel 10 Maxine Ridling spoke with some Canyon Junior High parents they said their kids had been complaining of bullying for quite sometime and yet nothing is being done.

"Yes there is a problem in our area and the school does not do what they are supposed to do," says Dr. Nguyen responding to the problem.

Police responded to Canyon Junior High at 11:30 Monday morning when a 14-year-old reportedly stabbed a 15-year-od during their lunch session. Canyon school officials refused to talk on camera, but they did confirm bullying may be the reason behind this assault. Dr Nguyen added that he is very aware of this issue, but whenever it happens all we can do is talk about it and he also said schools in our area aren't doing anything about it.

"The schools don't do anything to resolve bullying and that needs to change," Nguyen said.

The 14-year-old who stabbed his classmate is still in custody and the case is classified as an Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon. Officials say the victim is recovering from minor injuries.
