$1 Million Up for Grabs for Area Vets

by: Kristen Guilfoos

Amarillo, Texas - They've risked their lives to serve our country, and now Texas Governor Rick Perry says it's time to pay them back. NewsChannel 10's Kristen Guilfoos has more on the new grant to help Texas veterans.

If you've ever played the Texas Lottery, you're helping to fund this grant aimed at helping vets in need... It's being paid for completely with profits from scratch-off tickets.

All vets, no matter if they just got back from Afghanistan yesterday or they've been back for years, are eligible for their share of the money.

They can apply for up to $1,000 to cover emergency expenses... Things like heating bills that got a little out of control, car problems, mortgages, rent, home repairs and food.

There are more than 30,000 veterans in the Texas Panhandle.

If you would like to apply, you can contact the Texas VFW Foundation at 1-800-997-7096 or go to www.texasvfw.org
