A last minute stay of execution has saved a Pampa man from the death chamber, at least for now.

NewsChannel 10 was told that Hank Skinner was already most of the way through his last meal when he got the news.

Skinner says he's very surprised and that he'd already made up his mind that he was going to die.

The stay came from the U.S. Supreme Court a little after 5 pm Wednesday night. Skinner was scheduled to die at 6 pm.

Skinner's attorneys had appealed to the court to have some additional DNA evidence tested.

Court documents have yet to be delivered and no one is quite sure until of the official reasons for the stay.

But for now, Skinner will be transferred back to a holding cell where he says in his own words: "I'm eager to get the DNA testing so I can prove my innocence and get the hell out of here."
