AMARILLO, TEXAS - After a four hour standoff with police, an Amarillo man is in custody.
Authorities used a robot and a lot of tear gas to get 67 year old Virgil Spencer out of his home on Willow Street.
Spencer reportedly violated his probation - which had an original charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon - and authorities were trying to serve him with a warrant.
Randall County Sheriff's deputies first showed up at 2:30 Wednesday morning, but Spencer would not come out.
So they played the waiting game for about nine more hours.
Amarillo Police Corporal Jerry Neufeld says, "they were just hoping he would leave so they could get him arrested but because never left the house they secured and made sure he didn't sneak out."
Around eleven Wednesday morning is when deputies called in some help - help from Amarillo police and the SWAT team.
Neufeld says a police robot was sent in the home instead of a police dog or an officer just in case Spencer pulled a weapon.
What finally got him out were the ten rounds of tear gas fired into his home.
