Preliminary Accident Report Released In Port Mansfield Crash

Port Mansfield, Texas - More information is released in a south Texas plane crash that killed two men from our area.

The National Transportation Safety Board's preliminary report of the accident shows the pilot, Harvey Kinikin of Dumas was in contact with ground crews just moments before the crash.  The report also shows no mechanical deficiencies were detected in the engines of the wrecked aircraft.

A witness told investigators that was awakened by the plane as it went by his home just moments before impact. The witness said he ran outside and heard the plane near the shoreline, but did not hear the crash. He says there was a "heavy haze" in the area at the time and estimated visibility at 300-350 yards.

The NTSB report is preliminary and subject to change. A cause for the accident has not yet been determined.
