Post Office Struggles Through the Holidays

Amarillo, TX - At the time when they need it most, the money just isn't coming in to the Amarillo post office like it used to.

Fewer people are mailing Christmas presents this year and revenue in Amarillo is down about seven percent. Volume is also down close to ten percent. This comes at a time when the United States Postal Service is already skating on thin ice. Nationwide, the postal service lost $3.8 billion this year alone.

There are 141 post office branches on the at-risk list. None of them are in the panhandle, but there is no word yet on whether this steep decline could cause job losses here. Also, you still have time to ship those packages to get there by Christmas.

The deadline for first class/priority is Monday, December 21. The deadline for express mail is Wednesday, December 23.
