Amarillo, TX - If you plan to ring in the holidays with alcohol, make sure to do it safely or have a designated driver.

The Amarillo Police Department will increase the number of officers on duty, specifically looking for intoxicated drivers.

The Texas Department of Transportation grant will go into effect this weekend.

Sgt. Brent Barbee says, "thethere'spublic perception of it and we're able to provide more protection with these officers and we think its important for both reasons. Not just so the public will see we are out there and hopefully prevent some of it, but to also actually prevent them by removing drunk drivers from the road."

The nearly 25,000 dollar impaired driving mobilization grant will pay for more officers on the road through January 3rd.
