AMARILLO, TEXAS - A local professional who has made his career freeing innocent people from jail is now being accused of an illegal kickback scheme.
In August of last year Jeff Blackburn along with several other attorneys helped to free Steven Phillips - a wrongly convicted Texas man.
But according to a law suit filed Friday by Phillips, "Blackburn is attempting to get an illegal kickback in the amount of $412,936.30 out of Phillips' compensation."
Blackburn says the allegations are ridiculous.
