Amarillo, TX -Dozens of concerned citizens turned out this evening to learn details of the downtown street scape project. Extra seating had to be brought in to accommodate everyone interested in the latest enhancement of the downtown area.

"I think it's great. There's been great attendance," said Richard Walton.

And Downtown Amarillo Inc. was pleased with the turnout because of how much citizens will be affected. Melissa Dailey knows this first hand, "This will make a big impact for downtown and its a really important project."

Half of the four million dollars for this proposed project would come from the Texas Department of Transportation. And aside from new sidewalks and light fixtures, some citizens were happy about other possible improvements.

"We're excited about the bike racks and also the park benches," says Carli Herbert.

Although, concerns surfaced about putting armrests on those benches to keep the homeless from sleeping on them. The irrigation system for new trees was also brought up, but overall citizens were pleased to see the beginnings of change to their downtown area.
