Amarillo, Texas - State environmental quality staff workers are overseeing the effects of a sewage main break in southeast Amarillo.

The City of Amarillo says the break happened just before midnight last night near 58th and Osage.  They say 500,000 gallons of sewage was released in the area from a 16 inch diameter sewer pipe.

No homes were damaged by the spill and they say they were able to get some of the discharge back into the system. They also say there was no threat to public health.
