Vega, TX - The bond was voted down by residents in Vega earlier Tuesday tonight. The final count was 188 against to 144 in favor. This issue can be put to rest for now as it has been a hot topic in the town for over a year.

Vega, TX - Some local business owners aren't so pleased about the high cost they may have to pay in school repairs. But some say the repairs may be necessary.

Soon we will know if the Vega ISD is going to receive four million dollars for repairs. Randy Roark owns a local hardware store. He knows his tax dollars will fund the improvements.

"What happens in these cases is your tax base increases but your revenue does not. So its going to take a chunk off the bottom line for us."

The school may only be home to 387 students but there haven't been any major repairs there in the last 40 years.

Among other things, fire hazards plague the hallways. These fire hazards can also be seen throughout every classroom in the school. And Vega Superintendent Margo Knox tells NewsChannel 10 the upgrades are necessary.

"It has had a great life but it's just time to get it new again."

Residents like Roark are all for educational fixes. But wonder why its coming after a new football Press Box and Gym floor. "Why are we spending that money and then asking the taxpayers to pay for classrooms."

All of these questions are a big reason why the town seems to be split fifty-fifty on the issue.
