Amarillo, Texas - $450 dollars for one gallon of paint... And Potter County Commissioners want to spend your tax dollars buying $22,000 dollars worth of it.
In a preliminary vote, commissioners approved the purchase of the long-lasting paint for the window trim.
Commissioner Joe Kirkwood was the only commissioner to vote against it, and tonight he's speaking out. "$22,000 dollars is the cost of the purchase of the paint to paint the metal windows of the courthouse and I think it sends a bad message to taxpayers."
But County Judge Arthur Ware defends the pricey paint, saying it will be worth it in the long run since it will save the county from having to pay to re-paint it in a few years. "I have seen too many times around the county where we've scrimped in one area and we've had to come back and re-do it. And if you're gonna do it, do it right the first time. It's always the cheapest way to go."
This paint is not a done deal yet... We're told commissioners will re-visit the issue sometime in the near future.
