Golden Spread Co-op Money

Nearly $50 million in federal stimulus money is awarded to our area for improving "smart grid" technology.

Golden Spread Co-op was awarded the money by the Department of Energy as part of $3.4 billion for similar projects across the country.

Locally, the money will go to install a network of 70,000 "smart meters."

Some of these meters provide a more detailed description of power consumed, with near-real-time sensors.

Smart meters have been in place in many countries across the world and many more have plans to put them in place.
