Amarillo, TX - Local military personnel and their families can now take free health and safety courses at the Red Cross.

Newschannel 10's Ryan Cody tells us this could be the difference for some soldiers to assimilate back into society. Andrew Pore is going to Amarillo College in hopes of becoming a personal trainer.

"They told me before I could get my certification in personal training I'd have to have CPR, First Aid and AED certifications. So Andrew called the Texas Panhandle Red Cross office where he received his certification for free.

Red Cross office manager Ora Bradley is thrilled. "We have the ability to give back to the military. They have done so much for us. Freedom is a high cost."

But thanks to a five-thousand dollar grant from the government. Taking health and safety classes for the military won't cost them a thing.

"When they come back home they have to be re-integrated. Into the community. They have to be retrained. This program will help them to reach out and receive further training. Training that service members like andrew can use to get on with their lives.
