This week Roosevelt General Hospital in Portales has seen three times the number of flu cases they normally do.
Beginning Thursday morning the hospital is setting up a triage unit to deal with incoming flu cases.
The Portales Fire Department and Roosevelt County Sheriff's Office have assisted the set up of the unit.
The goal is to keep potential contagious flu patients away from others in the clinic.
Officials say the spike in flu cases is not a reason to panic but a motivation to get in front of the problem.
