The YES Program Brings Kids Together in the 79107

The" YES" program at the north branch YMCA is helping kids stay safe and learn at the same time."

Youth Excelling and Succeeding Students" is a program that keeps kids involved in recreation and builds character.

450 kids are in the YMCA  North branch YES program.Kids in the 79107 zip code are able to get a ride to the North branch, get help with their home work, play games , and get involved in the arts.

"In 1996 there were 10 zip codes in Texas that had high rates of juvenile crime and delinquency, now they have expanded it to 15, so we are still in the top 15,"said Myron Sims Branch Director.

The program is possible due to grants from the Amarillo Area Foundation through Texas Family and Protective Services.This curriculum is year round and kids also can take a photography class.

With the grant money the YES program was able to buy 10 digital cameras.Its more than the fun and fellowship for these children .

"We run into a lot of kids who don't have the basics we can provide those basics wither female or male role models a hot meal a wide range of basics we can take care here at the Y".
