Amarillo, TX -- The 2009 Tri-State Fair Fleischmann's Yeast "Bake for the Cure" Contest winner stopped by NewsChannel 10's Early Show.
Jenny Detten showed us how to make her award winning rolls, and let us taste the finished product.
Following her Tri-State Fair victory, Jenny's recipe now moves on to US wide judging, where it will compete against 51 other 1st place winning recipes from around the country for a $1,000 grand prize.
Here's the recipe, so you can watch her demonstration, and then make the rolls for your family.
Sunday Dinner Rolls
1-1/4 cup warm water (110 to 115 degrees)
1-1/2 teaspoons Fleischmann's Instant Dry Yeast
1/3 cup sugar
3 tablespoons shortening
2 tablespoons butter
1 egg, beaten
3/4 teaspoon salt
3-3/4 cup flour
In large mixing bowl, combine water, Fleischmann's yeast and sugar. Allow yeast to dissolve completely. Add shortening, butter, egg and 2 cups of the flour. Mix well. Gradually add salt and remaining flour, using dough hooks if using a mixer; stir until dough is smooth. Place dough in large greased bowl; cover and let rise until double, about 2 hours. Pinch off 1-1/2 inch balls of dough; pull and tuck to form smooth rolls. Place rolls on greased baking sheet, about 2 inches apart. Cover and let rest about 10 to 15 minutes. Bake at 350 degrees for 14 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm.
Yields: 16 dinner rolls
