Galveston, Texas - Joshua Duane Barnes, 21, who escaped twice last year from Potter County has escaped again...this time from a Galveston prison medical facility.

A public information officer for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice told a Galveston newspaper Barnes apparently escaped late Saturday night through an air vent using blankets he tied together.  The PIO says Barnes was in his room during an inmate check at 8:15 p.m. but was reported missing more than an hour later.

He was being treated at the medical center for injuries he received during a fight earlier in the week. The Potter County SHeriff's Office is now assisting the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in the search for Brnes. They are searching at the homes of Barnes' known friends and his family.

Barnes is from Amarillo and has a history of escapes.  His first one was in June of 2008 when he ran out of a Potter County courtroom.  He was captured by sheriff's deputies four days later at an Amarillo hotel hiding with his girlfriend.

His next escape was in October of the same year when he broke out of the Potter County Detention Center.  He was captured three days later at another Amarillo motel, that time with a juvenile.Barnes was serving a 35 year sentence for several burglaries and an aggravated assault charge.

Anyone with information on Barnes' whereabouts is urged to call the Potter County Sheriff's Department at 379-2900.
