Newborn Dead in Closet

AMARILLO, TEXAS - Investigators say it was one of the most horrific things they've ever seen: a newborn baby found dead in a closet.

Police came to a home in the 4200 block of West 11th Street yesterday after suspicion from a 15 year old girl's trip to the emergency room. The girl came in complaining of pains. Doctors thought she had been pregnant and might have given birth. The girl denied those claims, and that's when police went searching for a baby that might need help.

Police were on the street for almost 11 hours after finding the dead baby. Autopsy results out of Lubbock today say the baby was born alive, but he died anywhere from five minutes to five hours after birth.

There was also some object that had been lodged in the baby's throat and the main cause of death was suffocation. The 15-year-old girl involved in all of this is in the hospital right now for treatment. As soon as she gets out police will question her, and she could be charged with capital murder.

Police also say they haven't ruled out other suspects, but this is for sure a homicide investigation.
