Rate of Oklahoma college-bound students stays steady

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A report presented to state higher education regents indicates the percentage of Oklahoma high school graduates attending a college in the state has increased only slightly during the past four years.

The College Going Rate Report issued Thursday showed the rate of Oklahoma public school graduates who attend a state college has gone up from 58.0 percent in 2003 to 58.4 percent in 2007, the most recent year for which statistics are available.

Tony Hutchison, the associate vice chancellor for strategic planning and analysis, says the statistics have been flat for some time. Another report presented to regents indicated that the annual overall cost of attendance for a full-time in-state student in Oklahoma is $14,658 at research institutions, $9,934 at regional universities and $7,752 at community colleges.
