Amarillo, Texas - The Amarillo City Commission votes to not stand in the way of the creation of a Randall County Emergency Services District #1.
The City has never dealt with this sort of entity, said City Manager Allan Taylor, however it's more common in other parts of the state.
The District would create a taxing entity to fund and provide fire and emergency medical services to Timbercreek Canyon, Lake Tanglewood and the Palisades.
Because the villages are partially located within the five mile extraterritorial jurisdiction of the City of Amarillo, the City apparently had a legal responsibility to consent to or oppose the creation.
Now that the City is on board, Randall County must consent and then call for a public election, probably for this November.
