Fight the Bite, Prevent the Spread of West Nile

Amarillo, TX - The City of Amarillo is warning residents to take precautions to help fight the bite of mosquitos. Officials say all known areas of standing water have been treated in the city to eliminate the insects that could be carrying the West Nile Virus. Late summer and fall are the peak times the disease is transmitted. The following is a list of ingredients that have a long lasting insect reppellent qualities:

  • DEET
  • Picaridin
  • Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus or PMD
  • IR3535

If you need to treat your yard for mosquitoes contact a local lawn and garden center to learn the best chemical and how to apply it properly.
