New State Immunization Requirements

School starts in less than a week, and some new laws mean new immunizations before your child can enroll.

The Texas State Health Department has issued an updated list of required immunizations for Texas school children.

The list includes additional booster shots for MMR and Hepatitis A, and a meningitis vaccination for seventh graders.

AISD Health Services Director Brenda Adams says complying with the new requirements is paramount to the health and safety of Texas families, saying, "We've got a little push here because we want to get kids immunized so we can get them to school in August. We don't want them to miss out on their first days of school - particularly kindergarten children; they look forward to coming to school."

The shots will be offered at several locations in the area, including the City of Amarillo Public Health Department, the Canyon Bus Barn, and Reeves Hinger Elementary School.
