Curry County Inmate Escapes; Captured Hours Later

By Megan Moore

Clovis, New Mexico - Curry County Sheriff's officials say an inmate escaped custody while being taken back to the Curry County Detention Center following treatment for a reported fall Sunday.

25 year old Bobby Owen had been taken to the Plains Regional Medical Center after saying he fell at the detention center.  While on his way back, officials say he escaped custody around three a.m.

Around one Sunday afternoon, officers from the Sheriff's Office, State Police, and Adult Probation and Parole captured Owen at a home in the 900 block of West 9th in Clovis.

Escape from jail will be added to the list of charges Owen faces, along with burglary, larceny, resisting, evading or obstructing an officer, and others.

Owen's girlfriend, 22 year old Estrellita Sanchez, was also arrested and faces charges of assisting escape and harboring or aiding a felon.

Curry County is investigating how Owen escaped.
