TIMPSON, Texas - Police say a 2-year-old child accidentally shot another at a house in the small East Texas crossroads town of Timpson.
Police Chief Hilton Poindexter says the shooting happened Monday night in a bedroom where one child found a .22-caliber handgun and was playing with it when it went off. The other 2-year-old was wounded in the upper right abdomen.
Poindexter says the wounded child underwent surgery at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital, 25 miles to the southwest, then was transferred to Louisiana State University Hospital in Shreveport, La. He says the child is in stable condition and expected to recover.
No charges have been filed, but the investigation continues.
