Grant for Alzheimer's Program in Amarillo

Five thousand dollars has been awarded to Texas Tech Health Sciences Center in Amarillo from the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.

The grant will be used to start a new support program in which medical students will help family caregivers locate educational resources and assistance related to alzheimer's disease.

In the panhandle region, the proportion of elderly is expected to increase from 14% to 22% of the population in the next 20 years.

Advanced age is the greatest risk factor for the disease.
