More than $1 million dollars of federal stimulus money will be used for three road projects in Amarillo. The money was given to the Amarillo Metropolitan Planning Organization.

Today the Amarillo City Commission approved the construction.  Earlier this year the MPO made the decision to make improvements to Hastings Avenue in North Amarillo and to South Georgia Street.

They also intend to create a roadway rehabilitation project on Hillside Avenue from Loop 335 West to Nancy Ellen Drive.

Gary Holwick, Director of the MPO says "I believe that all of those projects that are funded with the federal monies will go on to improve the availability of jobs, bring better community relations, bring better community transportation."

The money is from the nearly nine million dollars of federal stimulus funding given to the City.  Construction of the roads may not begin until late summer, early fall.
