Amarillo residential permits down

The City of Amarillo is reporting that residential permits for the month of April are down from this time last year, 154 from 230 last year.

The ANB's Amarillo Economic Analysis for April reports residential starts are down from last year from 64 to 37, although that's up from last month.  Nevertheless, the President of the Texas Association of Builders, Ron Connally, an Amarillo builder, says there are indications the Texas market may be turning.  He says, "we're seeing some momentum in some markets, not all of them but obviously I think some of the inventory levels across the state have been reduced to where construction is probably seeing it to the day when it's going to start coming back some."  Connally says Amarillo was near the last to feel the effects of the economic downturn and will be one of the first to rebound.
