TX Senate votes to require backseat belts

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ The Texas Senate has voted to require passengers in the back seat to wear seat belts or face being ticketed and fined.

Texas already requires seat belts for drivers and passengers in the front seat. Sen. Kirk Watson, an Austin Democrat, is trying to extend it to all passengers in a vehicle.

Watson says wearing restraints in the back seat could save lives in accidents. The bill passed 25-6 and now goes to the House.

The seat belt bill is CSSB1028.
