An Amarillo man breaks down in court and admits his role in the robbery and beating death of an elderly women.

Forty-five-year-old Charles Lee Hess was on trial for injury to an elderly person intending serious bodily injury.

The charges stem from an incident in July of 2007.

Prosecutors say Hess broke into 88-year-old Alberta Byers house on N. Mirror St., stole from her then beat her and left her in the house.

She never fully regained consciousness and died three months later.
