Local non-profit receives rezoning approval

The Amarillo City Commission reversed a decision Tuesday by the Planning and Zoning Commission to allow a local non-profit to expand.

Roy Bowen of The Hope & Healing Place appealed the Zoning Commission's decision and won over the City Commission.

Bowen wants to expand his grief and counseling center to allow a larger group to participate in sessions.

The Zoning Commission originally objected to the plans because there would be only 8 inches between Bowen's property and those to his north.

But Bowen's neighbor also agrees with his plans and did not protest.

The Commission was visibly impressed with the work done by the counseling center.
