Despite the UIL's decision to postpone competitions, the Greater Southwest Music Festival has decided to proceed as planned May 6th, 7th and 8th.
The festival brings middle and high school musicians from across the area for a musical competition.
Organizers of the festival say too many pieces are in place to cancel now, from trophies to plane tickets for judges and the booking of the venues.
The Amarillo Civic Center is booked until June.
Karen Fishburn, the Executive Director of the festival says some smaller schools have opted out of participating because their school districts are following the UIL recommendations of postponing travel until after May 11th.
She says safety precautions will be observed throughout the festival, such as ensuring hand sanitizers are available and that restrooms remain clean.
Events will be held in the Amarillo Civic Center, the Globe News Center for the Performing Arts and Amarillo College.
