Update - Argument Leads To Shooting Death Of Amarillo Man

Amarillo police are investigating the shooting death of a 65-year-old man.

They say Richard Earl Appling died early Sunday morning while undergoing surgery for a gunshot wound.

Police report an argument among several family members led to the shooting at around 9:45 Saturday night at 4718 Cherokee.  Appling's 15-year-old relative has been booked into the Juvenile Detention Center on a murder charge.

The boy apparently took a gun owned by appling and fired during that family argument.

Justice of the Peace Thomas Jones has ordered an autopsy on Appling.
