2 teens killed in I-40 accident in Custer County

WEATHERFORD, Okla. (AP) - Two teenagers have died in a rollover accident on Interstate 40 in Custer County just east of Weatherford.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says 19-year-old Andrew Raymond Charles Arnett of Haleyville, Ala., and 18-year-old Christy Nichole Thatcher of Farwell, Texas, died in the accident that happened about 4:05 p.m. Thursday.

Troopers say Arnett was driving and Thatcher was a passenger in the vehicle when it went off the highway to the left. As the driver overcorrected, the vehicle came back onto the road, then left the road to the right, where it hit a guard rail and a traffic sign support.

The vehicle rolled 1 1/2 times, ejecting Thatcher and pinning Arnett. Thatcher died at the scene, while Arnett was taken by helicopter to an Oklahoma City hospital, where he died.
