SAN ANTONIO (AP) - An autopsy has been ordered in the Easter Sunday shooting death of a 3-year-old boy at his family's rural home west of San Antonio.
Xavier Ortiz was shot during an Easter Sunday celebration at home about 30 miles west of San Antonio near Castroville. Medina County Sheriff Randy Brown says the boy was with other children in the house when he was shot about 3:30 p.m.
Parents Javier Ortiz and Christina Agurero were outside hiding Easter eggs when they heard the shot. They drove their child 20 miles to the Medina Regional Hospital in Hondo, where he was pronounced dead at 4:17 p.m.
Brown says social workers will interview the other children. No charges have been filed.
