April Class Act

NewsChannel 10 is putting the spotlight on one Amarillo High class for having a positive impact on the community.

Students enrolled in Amarillo High's PELE course are working with three to five year olds while preparing for their futures. PELE, which started in 1973, allows students to spend three days a week teaching children everything from the alphabet to art.

Course instructor, Carolyn McMahan, tells us the program is designed for students looking to work with children in their future careers. Students interested in the program must apply and pass certain guidelines such as having good attendance, undergoing an interview, and a having community reference.
