Texas legislators want to crack down on 8-liner machines

Aiming to crack down on illegal gambling machines, the Texas Senate voted today for new licensing and record-keeping requirements for the operators of so-called eight-liner machines.

The devices resemble slot machines but have a grid that gives players eight ways to win. Texas law limits winnings to non-cash prizes worth less than $5.

Under SB 309, given preliminary approval by the Senate today, establishments that operate 10 or more eight-liner machines would have to get a license and provide information about the devices to the state comptroller.
