NM Tuberculosis Patients May Go to Court

A court hearing may soon be in store for New Mexico residents who do not follow Tuberculosis treatments.

The bill allowing the Department of Health to take TB patients to court is on the desk of Governor Bill Richardson for final approval.

The Health Department says the law will reduce the risk of transmitting the disease and a significantly lower the risk of developing drug-resistant forms of TB.

The Tuberculosis measure was passed by the house in February and by the Senate Friday.
