NM Farmers Hurt By Low Milk Prices

The falling cost of milk is continuing to hit dairy farmers hard.

Unprocessed milk prices are half what they were at this time last year.

Dairy farmers in Curry and Roosevelt counties say they are borrowing against the equity in their operations or going out of business all together, which has become the fate of several dairies in the last nine months.

One farmer says the low prices are because of a two percent excess in supply due to lower exporting demand.

Another farmer says he expects to lose about a million dollars in the next nine months.
