Televangelist Probe

CAPITOL HILL (AP) _ The ranking Republican on the Senate Finance Committee is pleased that one of the televangelists he's investigating has received accreditation from the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability.

Iowa Senator Charles Grassley says he met Thursday with representatives of the ECFA, which determined that Joyce Meyer Ministries meets its "standards of responsible stewardship, including financial accountability, transparency, sound board governance and ethical fund-raising.'' Grassley calls that "a positive development,'' and says he hopes the other ministries will seek accreditation and provide his committee with information on how they handle tax-exempt donations. The committee says televangelist Benny Hinn "provided extensive answers to all questions,'' but televangelists Randy and Paul White, Eddie Long and Kenneth Copeland submitted incomplete responses, and it says Creflo Dollar "declined to provide any of the requested information.''
