Engineer to Study Feedyard Emissions

A local Environmental Engineer is looking for ways to cut down on emissions from feedyards.

Dr. Ken Casey of Amarillo is measuring the ammonia and hydrogen sulfide emissions from feed yards in an air quality trailer.

Since the two are both environmental pollutants and can affect the region, Casey wants to try and find out how to manage these emissions.

But says it will take some time.  "Because we're looking for a long term picture, we want to see how that variation occurs over the different seasons, this project will probably run for at least two years and will basically acquire continuous data for those two years."

Dr. Casey has set up three trailers in the area to measure the gaseous emissions.

Right now, the colder temperatures have lowered the levels of the two pollutants.
