A Portales mother charged in her 6-year-old son's death has been arraigned in Roosevelt County.
24-year-old Teresa Gilman is in jail right now on no bond charged with first-degree murder and four counts of child abuse.
Thursday when her son 6-year-old Lorenzo Cabral Junior was discovered unresponsive and not breathing at a home in Portales.
He was pronounced dead at a hospital. Autopsy results show the boy died of head trauma and water in his lungs.
9th Judicial District Attorney Matthew Chandler tells us... The boy's mother told police she believed her son was possessed by the devil... so she tried to get the devil out by filling a gallon jug with water and then forced the water down the child's throat.
Police found drug paraphernalia at the home and Gilman admitted to using marijuana and methanphetamine.
Police found 3 other children between the ages of 10 months and 8 years at the home living with no functioning bathroom, no heat, and the only running water coming from a hose outside fed into the kitchen. They also reported the home was cluttered with spoiling, moldy food items, dirty laundry, and trash.
