Amarillo, TX - Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of a fire that forced the evacuation of Xcel's Harrington plant this morning.
Potter County and Amarillo Fire Departments responded to a report of a fire around 8:30 this morning in the Coal Mill area.
To be safe, Xcel officials closed the adjacent unit two boiler.
"We have an emergency response team that's trained to deal with these situations. They went into the area to contain the fire. As a precaution we did evacuate nonessential personnel and brought the unit down," says Wes Reeves, Xcel Energy spokesman.
There were no reports of injuries. Steam was released in the unit two boiler after it was shut down. Xcel says they do not expect a disruption in service to customers in the area.
