SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) - Ian Kinsler has a prime spot in the Texas Rangers lineup, even though he is no longer the leadoff hitter.
Kinsler is right in the middle of the order, in the No. 5 slot right between sluggers Vladimir Guerrero and Nelson Cruz. It is the first time in three years Kinsler isn't heading into the season at the top of the lineup.
The Rangers second baseman says batting there "takes a little bit of pressure off" and allows him to be a more of a free swinger.
Texas has finally found a more prototypical leadoff hitter in young speedster Julio Borbon, the new center fielder. Plus, Kinsler's style seems better suited for lower in the order because he hits more flyballs than groundballs.
