A salmonella outbreak at the IHOP on Western is being linked back to syrup containers.

Officials say a warm water basin stored the containers to keep the syrup hot.

But that water was contaminated with salmonella... Infecting the outside of the containers and spreading as soon as someone touch them.

Now that a source has been identified officials with the Amarillo Bi-City County Health District say they are confident the spread will stop.

Dr. J. Rush Pierce, Amarillo's Health Authority says, "This particular salmonella doesn't pass very well from person to person. It is one of the interesting things that we observed."

The restaurant has been told to stop using the warm water basin system.  It remains closed this evening until they can ensure the restaurant has been sanitized completely.
