EMPORIA, Kan. (AP) - Natalie Knight scored 23 points as Olathe South fought off Wichita Heights 54-49 to win the Class 6A state championship Saturday.
Kelsey Balcom added 14 points for Olathe South, which finished the season 24-1.
In the first half of a tight game, no team led by more than three and there were eight ties. As the game wound down, Wichita Heights (23-2) nearly produced a fourth straight turnover when Taylor Chandler jumped a screen for Knight and swiped the ball.
But Chandler was called for the foul and Knight sank both free throws. Knight then scored on a drive on Olathe South's next possession, and Olathe South scored seven straight points to seal the victory.
Jhasmin Bowen led Wichita Heights with 17 points, all but 3 of them in the first half.
